Abstract

As one of the representative works of the theatre of the absurd, waiting for Godot is famous for its unconnected dialogues and monologues to reveal the absurdity. There are three monologues in this play. This article focuses on the analysis of Lucky's monologue translation which is the most representative monologue among the three monologues by four Chinese versions of Waiting for Godot. The monologues translated by the four translators can prove "double-voiced discourse".
